Muslim
Muslims are people who practice the religion of Islam. The word "Muslim"Ā derives from Arabic and means "submitter (to God)".
Fundamentals of Islam
Islam is
- to testify there is no God but Allah and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,
- to establish prayer,
- to give charity,
- to fast the month of Ramadan, and
- to perform Hajj pilgrimage to Makkah if you are able to do so.
Faith is to believe in
- Allah (God),
- His angels,
- His books,
- His messengers,
- the Last Day,
- and to believe in fate, its good and its evil.
Adhan (Call to Prayer)
Adhan is the Islamic call to prayer recited by a muezzin at prescribed times of the day. The root of the word is ʾadhina Ų£ŁŲ°ŁŁŁ meaning "to listen, to hear, be informed about".
Prayer (Salah)
The daily obligatory prayers collectively form the second of theĀ five pillars Ā inĀ Islam, observed five times every day atĀ prescribed times.
These areĀ
- FajrĀ (observed at dawn),Ā
- ZuhrĀ (observed at noon),Ā
- AsrĀ (observed late in the afternoon),
- MaghribĀ (observedafter sunset),
- andĀ IshaĀ (observed at dusk).
Salah can be performed either in solitude, or collectively (known asĀ jama'ah). When performed in jama'ah, worshippers line up in parallel rows behind a leader, known as theĀ imam.
Special prayers are exclusively performed in congregation, such as theĀ Friday prayerĀ and theĀ Eid prayers, and are coupled with two sermons each, delivered by the imam.[2]
